Summer is here and warm temperatures are in the forecast for the foreseeable future. Just like the sun’s UV-rays can take a toll on your skin, this time of year can wreak havoc on your car, or fleet of vehicles. Are you doing enough preventative maintenance to avoid a breakdown?

Monitor the fluids. When was the last time you topped off the oil, radiator coolant, power steering fluid, or brake fluid in your car? If you can’t remember, it’s time to take action. Warm weather causes these important liquids to evaporate more quickly than usual. Regularly checking your fluid levels and adding to them will ensure your car doesn’t overheat or break down.

Regularly fill the tires. How often do you check the tire pressure on your fleet vehicles? Tires and hot pavement are a recipe for disaster, especially if the tires are under filled. So take a few extra moments to double check your tire pressure and get it to the recommended level. In addition, keep an eye on your tire treads. If the treads are hard to see or non-existent, it’s time to upgrade.

Park in the shade. Have you noticed how the banners and advertisements that are exposed to the sun fade quickly and lose their color? The sun does the very same thing to your fleet of vehicles. Chipping paint won’t affect your vehicle’s ability to function, but hours of exposure to the sun can take a toll on your battery and other internal components. Whenever possible, garage your vehicles or park in the shade.
