To have the most success we recommend clients find what’s called a “Triple A” location. A “Triple A” location has high traffic flow, is near a high-end neighborhood where average household income is $75,000 per year or more, and where there are at least 3 cars per household. Demographics. Both Chevron Havoline Xpress Lube and Valvoline Instant Oil Change require future owners to conduct a demographic study before opening a business. This data helps to ensure a location is worthy of an investment. Demographic studies are conducted in three steps and look at the population and businesses within a 1-mile, 3-mile, and 5-mile radius. Ideally, you want to open a quick lube where you will serve a minimum of 20 vehicles each day.

Construction. This step is the most time consuming, as quick lube businesses require underground pits and trucks bays in addition to parking areas and garages. You will also need to acquire building permits while complying with all city, state, and federal construction regulations.

In fact, The 2017 Fast Lube Operator Survey found that on average 88% of quick lube businesses’ revenue comes from services provided in under 45 minutes and that the average ticket price is $76.46. Even more impressive? Quick lube businesses serve an average of 42 cars per-day, and during the last year, the percentage of sales attributed to oil changes grew by 56%.
